The MOST show will be hosted by The Milan Science and Technology Museum, a perfect venue for us to exhibit since the
startingpoint of our project was a visit to the Museum of Technology in Stockholm. In Milan our Tie desk will be accompanied
by a new Tie stool, based on the tying principle and made stackable for additional function when many seats are needed.

REEL CABINET AND TIE DESK:

Designduon Carlsten Thostrup har inför Greenhouse 2012 tagit fram en möbelserie som berör begreppen identitet och
ursprung. Gestaltningen har tagit form i en rad förvaringsmöbler där detaljerna tar över.
Välkommen att se Tie desk och Reel cabinet i vår monter V03:18.

Designer duo Carlsten Thostrup have developed a range of furniture which concern the concepts of identity and origin. It has taken its shape in a number
of storage units where the details allow taking over. Welcome to see the Tie-desk and Reel cabinet in our stand, V03: 18.

At the workshop at Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, we found each other directly, and our ability to give each others ideas life,
and then together develop them is our greatest strength. It makes our cooperation surprising and enjoyable.

"Långt ute i ingenstans stannade vi vid en lada och beundrade dess väl använda skjutdörr, stora enkla hjul gick i en skena ovanför. En detalj som vi tog med oss till skissbordet."

"In the middle of nowhere, we stopped at a barn and admired its well used sliding door. Large simple wheels made the door slide easily into the bar above it. That was the one detail that we brought to the drawing board."		  

"Med inspiration från den gamla ladugårdsdörren formgav vi Reel Cabinet. Ett skåp med grova hjul som styr skjutdörrarna där vi lät just den detaljen tar över."

Inspired by the old barn door we designed the Reel Cabinet. A cabinet with large wheels that control the doors. "

"I New York under 1880-talet uppfanns kuverten "Tension". De öppnas och förseglas genom att vira ett snöre mellan två runda pappknappar. En fin detalj som vi ville ta vidare. Vilket vi också fick möjlighet till under skissarbetet av Tie Desk - vårt "hemmakontor". Här lät vi just denna detalj ta över. Genom att vira läderremmen runt metallknapparna öppnar eller stängs Tie Desk."

Tired of all the mess that work from home results in, we decided to design a modern writing desk. Like a box, Tie Desk opens up. When you are finished for the day and close the shutters Tie Desk becomes a unique piece of furniture in your home.

New York in the 1880s, one of the new inventions is the "Tension Tie". An envelope with a string and button closure. By twisting a string attached to the flap button around the lower button, the envelope closes under tension. A really nice function which we wanted to apply in a different scale.

 

"Trötta på allt stök som jobb hemifrån medför beslöt vi oss för att formge en modern sekretär. Likt en ask öppnas Tie Desk upp. När du är klar för dagen och stänger klaffarna blir skåpet en unik möbel i ditt hem."



This process resulted in our Tie Desk - a "home office" furniture. Here, we allowed this particular detail to take over. By wrapping the leather strap around the metal buttons the Tie Desk opens or closes.

In Milan our Tie desk will be accompanied by a new Tie Stool, based on the tying principle and made stackable for additional function when many seats are needed.

Since our furniture are about origin and identity, it was important to us to stage our objects in the right spot for this photo shoot.
Following our concept we chose the box room at the post office. Special thanks to the Post Museum in Gamla stan, Stockholm.
